An Initiative by Aalekh Arts & Culture Foundation

The Aalekh Cultural Registry

A curated platform documenting cultural practitioners across India.

We do not aggregate.
We curate.

Cultural Registry Hero

About the Registry

The Aalekh Cultural Registry is a long-term initiative to document artists, designers, photographers, weavers, performers, researchers and cultural practitioners working across India's diverse traditions.

The registry is not an open directory. Each entry is reviewed and selected by Aalekh's curatorial team.

Selected practitioners become part of the Foundation's working network for:

Exhibitions | Dialogues | Cultural research | Institutional collaborations | International showcases

Why This Registry Matters

Documentation becomes infrastructure when it is curated, reviewed and sustained.

The Aalekh Cultural Registry exists to ensure these practices are not only seen, but remembered and connected.

The registry advances this work through three core functions

Documentation

Recording cultural practices that might otherwise remain undocumented.

Discovery

Connecting practitioners with exhibitions, dialogues and cultural programs.

Institutional Archive

Building a long-term record of cultural work across regions and disciplines.

Practices in the Registry

The Aalekh Cultural Registry brings together practitioners working across diverse cultural disciplines and traditions. Applications are welcomed from individuals with a sustained and committed body of work within their practice.

How Selection Works

Applications to the Aalekh Cultural Registry are
reviewed periodically by the Foundation’s curatorial team.

Our curatorial review is guided by four core considerations:

Originality of Practice

A distinct and thoughtful artistic language

Work that demonstrates clarity of intent and an individual approach to cultural expression.

Cultural Relevance

Engagement with cultural contexts, traditions, and contemporary realities.

Practices that reflect or respond to the social and cultural landscape.

Depth of Practice

A sustained body of work developed with rigor and commitment.

Evidence of continuity, research, and dedication to the discipline.

Dialogue & Collaboration

Openness to exchange across disciplines, communities, and institutions.

Practices that can participate in meaningful cultural conversations.

Practitioners selected through this process are included in the Aalekh Cultural Registry and may be invited to contribute to exhibitions, programs, research initiatives and collaborative projects.

Submit Your Practice

Practitioners working across disciplines represented in the Aalekh Cultural Registry are invited to submit their work for curatorial consideration.
